XBOX LIVE HAS NEW FEATURES - Nov 27
Expand Your Xbox LIVE Network of Pals by browsing the Friends lists of other Xbox LIVE members

New Experience to be made available on December 4th with the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update

Microsoft is making it even easier to expand your Friends network on Xbox LIVE, starting with the Fall Dashboard Update on December 4th. Members will now be able to check out the friends lists of fellow Xbox LIVE members right from the Dashboard. With this new feature, members can find old friends or connect with new ones within the community of more than 8 million people on Xbox LIVE around the globe and send messages and game invites, as well as compare games and Achievements.

With the prevalence of social media websites such as MySpace and FaceBook, this type of capability has largely come to be expected from consumers as a means to relate in an online community. Xbox LIVE continually seeks new ways to better serve the expectations of its members, which often result in enhancements made available for free through the bi-annual Dashboard updates.

When the Fall Dashboard update is distributed on December 4th, the new default setting on Xbox LIVE will be active enabling members to see the Friends lists of other Xbox LIVE members. Members who would like to keep their friends list private can take the following steps to change their settings beginning today:

Log in to www.xbox.com/fof and select one of the three options available for your Gamertag:

Everyone (only available to members 18 and older)
Friends only (available to members 13 and older)
Blocked (available to all members, and automatic for anyone under the age of 13)

Stay tuned for more information about the Xbox 360 Dashboard Update later this month.

KEN KUTARAGI RECIEVES LIFETIME AWARD - Nov 27

FATHER OF PLAYSTATION, KEN KUTARAGI, TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Honors Industry Legend Responsible for Computer Entertainment System Explosion

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), has named Honorary Chairman and former President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Ken Kutaragi, the recipient of the coveted 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award which will be bestowed at this year’s Interactive Achievement Awards (IAA) ceremony on February 7 at Red Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in conjunction with the annual D.I.C.E. Summit 2008.

Recognized internationally as the “Father of PlayStation,” Kutaragi will be honored for revolutionizing the global in-home entertainment market with the creation and monstrous success of the PlayStation  computer entertainment systems.  The original PlayStation which was launched in 1994 and the PlayStation 2 which launched in 2000 went on to become the most popular computer entertainment systems of the era, resulting in combined shipments of more than 230 million units worldwide.

“Ken Kutaragi’s passion, innovative thinking and business savvy sparked a monumental movement that was unstoppable,” said Joseph Olin, president, AIAS. “If it wasn’t for Ken and his concept of the original PlayStation, there wouldn’t be the billion dollar industry there is today. His contributions have clearly set new standards for developers, publishers and consumers worldwide.”

About Ken Kutaragi:

The “Father of PlayStation ” launched his career in 1975 by joining Sony Corporation’s research lab, where he earned the reputation as an excellent problem solver and forward-thinking engineer. This same reputation was confirmed over the years by Kutaragi’s vision and foresight of the potential of computer entertainment.  In the late 1980’s, he presented his idea to build new gaming technology.  This landmark proposal to Sony allowed Kutaragi to bring to the market in 1994, the original PlayStation.

Just five years later, in 1999, on the heels of the PlayStation launch success; Kutaragi was named president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.  During his tenure as president, he spearheaded the release of the next-generation PlayStation 2, the best-selling in-home game system in history with more than 120 million units shipped worldwide.

Recognized for the success of PlayStation 2, TIME magazine named Kutaragi one of the 100 most influential people of 2004. During that same period, he was appointed executive deputy president of the Game Business Group and Broadband Network Company for Sony.   Kutaragi briefly shifted his focus to handheld gaming and launched the PlayStation Portable (PSP), quickly followed by the next generation of the popular home console, the PlayStation 3.

In June 2007, Kutaragi announced his official retirement from Sony after 30 years of service. He currently serves as honorary chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc., and senior technology advisor of Sony Corporation, where he applies his extensive technological knowledge and experience to continue to advance the future of technology.

"Ken Kutaragi is the smartest guy in the history of the video game business,” said Trip Hawkins, founder, Electronic Arts and AIAS Hall of Fame member. “Without Ken, there is no Sony PlayStation and that is beyond comprehension."

The first Lifetime Achievement Award was presented last year at the 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards to honor those individuals who have devoted their lives to the advancement of the interactive entertainment industry. Recipients are recognized for their continued contributions that have significantly impacted the $25 billion video game industry.

Online registration for the D.I.C.E. Summit 2008 is open.  Please visit www.dicesummit.org for more information and to register to attend the interactive entertainment industry event of the year.

The Interactive Achievement Awards can now be viewed live via webcast on GameSpot (www.gamespot.com). For the first time, game enthusiasts from anywhere in the world can be among industry insiders as the coveted Interactive Achievement Awards are presented to the geniuses and giants behind the most popular video games of the year.

RANIBOW SIX VEGAS 2 - Nov 26
pon releasing their financials for the six months ending September 30, 2007, Ubisoft showed their sales were up 52%, and sell-through sales for Assassin’s Creed have topped the 1 million mark.

Unfortunately, with the good, you also have to take the bad, and while the PS3  exclusive Haze was supposed to be released sometime in December, Ubisoft has now officially pushed the game back until the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 – which means the game will be pushed out of this year, and land in the first part of 2008.

However, Ubisoft today also announced Rainbow Six Vegas 2, the sequel to the chart topping Rainbow Six Vegas, will be released in North America in March of 2008. The game is being developed by the original Vegas team – Ubisoft Montreal. Little is known about this sequel, however, the game is said to “break new ground in both co-op and adversarial modes, while providing unprecedented interaction between the solo and multiplayer modes.” To that, we say bring it.
