Glowing Scepter
Holding down the B button instead of pressing it will make your scepter glow until you let go. It seems to have no effect on gameplay.

Sparkle Scepter
After geting Princess Ferne you will get a letter from her telling you to find 7 magic gems. Talk to her and get her book. Go around your towns and collect these gems, once you have the first 6 of them go to your castle and and the next day you will have a level 4 misson to track down the last one near Sobomanjaro. This is tricky but catch the person that happens to have it and Ferne will appear and put the gem in your scepter.

Maximize Life Points
Every time a citizen changes jobs, he gets a random number of life points. Exploit this by creating grunt soldiers with maximum life points just by changing them back and forth between farmers and soldiers (for free) until you get the value you want.
