Continue game play:
Hold Down/Left on controller two after losing your last life. Wait until the title screen appears, then press Start on controller one.

Avoid falls:
Press Down immediately after flipping up in the air to avoid falling after landing.

Level select:
Select the number of players with controller one, then hold Down + B on controller two and press Start on controller one.

Hint: Arcade-style control:
You can experience the arcade-style control for the game if you have a four-player adapter for the NES. Player one has controllers one and two while player two has controllers three and four. At the controller position, you turn both controllers together in both hands. Use the D-pad on the left controller to move your character while the D-pad on the right controller makes your character shoot.

Hint: Mode select:

One player, one controller. Play in one player mode with one controller.
One player, two controllers. Play in one player mode with two controllers (arcade controls in one player).
Two Players, two controllers. Play in two player mode with two controllers (one for each person).
Two players, four controllers. Play in two player mode with four controllers (arcade controls in two player).

Maniac Mansion Cheat Codes

Advance to level 5:
Collect the key in the well, then jump to the top of the pyramid on level 3 as soon as possible.

Advance to level 8:
Get to the end of level 1 within four seconds to find a rocket at the end of the level to advance to level 8.

Hint: Unreachable items:
Allow the shark to catch you on levels 1 and 2. It will eject you into the air and allow you to reach the items that were previously too high.

Duplicate items:
Collect the items from a room, then use the transceiver. The items will reappear after returning to the main game screen. This trick is especially useful when restoring supplies.

Invincibility:
Hold Down/Left + A + B and press Start at the title screen.

Level select:
Hold Up + Select + B and press Start at the title screen. Press Up or Down at the map screen to select a new level, then press Start to begin game play.

Time trial mode:
Press Select at the title screen.
